Together with L'Orca and Leo: Andrea, the latest addition to the band....

The track is part of the Cherry Blossom session but the singing is new and it specially tailored for the new situation 2008. The video shootings are from different experiences:

- at the studio with Chris, recording the latest version of the song in 2008;
- in front of a wine-yard in NY in 2008, a fantastic gateway with Anna, Luca, Rossana and John;
- scenes from the Eastside of Cleveland, some of which during the night of Lorenzo’s graduation. At the end you can also hear Luca and Lorenzo talking.

The seeds of Well rounded were planted far before than the album. Only queen represents the roots.

Six years ago

…the other side that gives me a positive impression is the strong personality, well defined and a style that deserves attention and respect. This is why I would start from this aspect: what does this personal feeling give? I believe that the answer is that you have a few very simple characteristics that I would suggest that you keep and work on:

Essence
The arrangement and the structure of the track are self sufficient to explain where you want to go on a poetical level with the song. There are not many fine points and every thing has its own reason to be the way it is. This is really good. Not too many things but not the fear of the silence / vacuum around it. This leaves space and air.

Vocals
…the singer is sure of what he does and passes it on to the listener. This is good.

…it is much more important to know how to communicate something to someone with your music than playing perfectly right and according to the standard.
This being said, there are values of the writing and of the lyrics. Thanks to the essence of the music and its self confidence, you are able to play things that create feelings in the listener. The feelings are the result of your artistic and creativeness both musically and lyrically. Listening to this song, I am sure that you can aim to something even more sincere and profound and full of emotions.Your world is between art and poetry and your expression is made thru music…

Sono Marco Bertoni, il vostro valutatore nell'ambito del progetto SONDA. Innanzitutto grazie per aver partecipato al progetto, di seguito ecco il mio primo report dato dal primo ascolto dei due brani che lo staff di SONDA mi ha inviato.

come sapete il progetto SONDA vuole parlare di creatività, di quel momento che sta prima del 'mercato', quindi non vorrei parlarvi di quello che va o che non va per essere 'vendibili' in un qualche mercato musicale. Vi vorrei sottolineare alcuni aspetti che credo vi possano essere utili per meglio lavorare sull'aspetto creativo e comunicativo del vostro lavoro.
Ascoltando il brano mi colpiscono subito le tante cose sbagliate (: voce a tratti stonata, suono del piano non caldo e piuttosto finto, imprecisioni di batteria, qualche sbandamento armonico della chitarra elettrica...) ma... CHI SE NE FREGA!
Dico questo perché l'altro aspetto che mi colpisce (insieme ai difetti percepiti dall'orecchio del 'produttore') é comunque una personalità forte e chiara e uno stile che meritano attenzione e rispetto. Dunque partirei da questo dato: cosa dà questa sensazione di personalità? Io credo che la risposta sia che voi avete alcune caratteristiche molto semplici ma che vi consiglierei di mantenere e di lavorarci su:

essenzialità
L'arrangiamento e la struttura del brano sono autosufficenti per spiegare dove volete arrivare a livello poetico con il brano. Non ci sono fronzoli ed ogni cosa ha un suo perché. Questo va proprio bene. Poche cose e intorno nessuna paura del silenzio/vuoto. Questo lascia spazio ed aria.

vocalità
pur avendo i difetti sopracitati il cantante ha sicurezza e la trasmette. Questo va bene.

E' interessante vedere come molte volte, parlando di musica, di comunicazione, cose che per alcuni artisti sono sbagliate, per altri sono solo dei dettagli. Ripeto, chi se ne frega, nel senso: é molto più utile imparare a comunicare qualcosa a qualcuno con il proprio lavoro musicale che non fare il 'compitino fatto bene'.

Detto questo, resta il valore della scrittura musicale e delle liriche, nel senso che grazie alla essenzialità ed alla sicurezza siete in grado di sostenere cose che possono provocare un'emozione in chi vi ascolta e tale emozione é frutto del lavoro creativo sia musicale che di parole. Ascoltando questo brano credo che voi possiate ambire a qualcosa di ancora più sincero e profondo e emozionale.
Il vostro mondo si colloca nell'arte e nella poesia, dove vi esprimete attraverso canzoni + o - rock.

mi ricordate un pochino un gruppo che si chiamava pere ubu.
Anche in questo brano riscontro con piacere la essenzialità e la tendenza 'poetica' del vostro lavoro.
Il cantante può osare di più, secondo me, deve osare di più. Può essere più potente più emotivo e convincente di così, deve dare più pregnanza alle parole (poetiche) che canta e al suono delle parole.
Bene le voci armonizzate.
Preferisco le liriche in inglese.
Pensatevi come dei visionari che persi nel loro delirio portano le loro visioni alla gente.

Un'ultima cosa, chiamarsi the trees ed avere un solo albero nel logo non é una cosa strana?

A new video from Well Rounded

Country Bar, the new video

It is about L’Orca’s passion for dancing. He learned to dance and the ABC in Parma, OH, also close to Pearl Road where he used to go watch line country dance at a couple of different places.

Many of the friends and family visited him in Cleveland. Any time L’Orca took them to those Country Bars, where you can get such a beautiful taste of America in a glimpse. The good friend Kent was there also, many times.

The video is made in two different locations, both of them in Reggio Emilia: the Roncolo Park, where the band went rehearsing, together with Vitto, at the beginning of August ’08 and L’Orca’s house in Fabbrico.

Recording Session for L'Orca

L'Orca and Chris recorded a few songs at the Lava Room Recording Studio in Cleveland.

- Daughters and sons and Troubles, two new songs, recorded acoustic.
- Only queen 2008, an old song from Cherry Blossom (www.myspace.com/thetreesindiansummer).

The Trees at Roncolo Park (RE)

The Trees played an acoustic set together with Vitto at the Roncolo Park in Reggio Emilia.
